Copenhagen, Denmark based Podimo, the podcast platform has announced bagging €6 million seed round financing as it prepares the launch. The round was co-led by Germany’s E.ventures and Denmark’s Heartcore where the platform is planning to launch the podcast by the end of this year. Through the platform, users can get a lot of exclusive content from both well-known and brand new hosts.
Launched by Morten Strunge along with other co-founders that include Nikolaj Koppel, Andreas Sachse and Sverre Dueholm, Podimo will offer both free and paid version of its product. The platform will help podcast producers generate reliable revenue for themselves.
Speaking to Techcrunch, Strunge said, “Podcasts have finally come of age and we are seeing a lot of demand for audio content globally across many different demographics. Consumers are increasingly looking for premium, ad-free services and we see a huge potential in the podcasting space.” While there are a number of podcast streaming services, Podimo claims to offer better discovery and recommendation compared to the existing podcast streaming and download services.
Commenting on their aim with Podimo Strunge tells Techcrunch that “Our dream is that with around 20% of people in Europe listening to podcasts on a weekly basis, many creators should be able to make a living out of creating podcasts, it shouldn’t just be for the few. We will offer revenue share to all existing podcasters out there, but also co-produced and produce original content.”
As the company launches in the two countries, the raised funds will give them a boost and eventually will help the users enjoy more quality podcast and turn Podimo into the “Netflix for podcasts" in Europe.
