Blockchain Based Game Development Company Mythical Games Raises $16 Million

Blockchain and gaming space startup Mythical Games has announced a fresh capital infusion in Series A round. Galaxy Digital’s EOS VC Fund has led the investment round which brings Mythical Games $16 million in funding. The investment round also saw participation from Javelin Venture Partners, Divergence Digital Currency, cryptocurrency exchange OKCoin along with few other unnamed backers.The company plans to use the fresh funding to create games for mobile and desktop computer users. The company's platform as per the details will be developed on EOS.io blockchain network.

The company was started in April this year by some top experts from the gaming industry who have been involved in the gaming space for the longest of times. John Linden, a former Seismic Games studio head at Activision and president of Seismic Games is the CEO of the firm who along with chief compliance officer Jamie Jackson, another former Activision studio head Stephen Cunningham and head of blockchain Rudy Koch who was formerly involved with Blizzard as a senior producer.

The team has previously worked on games like Call of Duty, Guitar Hero, Marvel Strike Force, and Skylanders together which have been massively successful. Talking to a gaming portal GameDaily, CEO Linden said, "We will bring games to market as a primary party but we will partner with experienced game and art studios to actually build these games with us. Our goal is to provide the economic engine built directly into Unity and Unreal for game developers to define what player-owned economies mean in their games.”

Talking about the boost in the blockchain gaming industry, Linden said, Blockchain as a technology is very fascinating, and it will allow an evolution of the games industry into this new world of ownership. We anticipate the games will appeal to wider audiences at a mainstream level, which is one of our core goals in bringing high-quality franchises and blockchain technology together.”

It will be interesting to see what interesting games the firm turns up with as other companies like Epic Games, Twitch, and Discord continue to fetch money.
