Bollywood actor and entrepreneur Suniel Shetty has invested in yet another fitness startup. The actor has infused an undisclosed sum in Pune based fitness and nutrition startup Squats. Shetty had recently backed men’s grooming startup Beardo.
The company said that the fresh funds will help them enhance its technological framework, increase the team strength by hiring new talent and expand pan-India operations. Launched in 2016, the company provides information around fitness and nutrition. The platform was founded by Jitendra Chouksey, a software engineer and ISSA-certified sports nutrition specialist.
Interestingly, Chouksey had started a WhatsApp group where he used to help the users through his answers. From WhatsApp, once the users grew, he moved to a Facebook group. Now, the firm claims to have managed to generate around $8.5 million without any marketing or advertisement. The mobile app of the company called Fittr has been downloaded more than 2 lakh.
Shetty commenting on the deal through a statement said, “In today’s time, when all kinds of false information about fitness is common, there is a critical need for companies like Squats, which address the issues of trust and credibility in the Indian fitness space, focusing on ‘balancing quantified nutrition with weight training’ and delivering exceptional results."
Chouksey talking on the fundraising from the actor said, "This coming together of mutual synergies is a testament to the strength of the SQUATS’ result-oriented approach to fitness. With Mr. Shetty on-board, SQUATS will be able to attract and transform the lives of more people in the country.”
