WinZO, the New Delhi-based mobile gaming platform has announced picking up a Series A financing worth $5 million from Kalaari Capital and instant messaging platform Hike. WinZO claims to be the country's largest vernacular e-sports platform.
Started in 2018 by Chanchal Kurele, Paavan Nanda, and Saumya Singh, the firm offers games of skill such as carrom, cricket, 8-ball pool, Sniper 3D, Bubble Shooter, Fruit Samurai, Knife Up, fantasy leagues along with trivia-based games. It offers monetary benefits to the winners. The users can access the platform in 10 languages across the country.
The fresh funds will go towards the acquisition of gaming content along with the hiring of new staff. The firm has around 30 games on its platform and as per the co-founder Paavan Nanda the firm aims to add additional 70 games on the platform. Speaking further on the use of funds Nanda said, “We are also looking to go live in additional local languages and create multiple social-gaming related activities for our vernacular audience.”
Through a statement, Nanda said that “WinZO’s social multiplayer skill gaming platform is a one-stop entertainment destination for Bharat. We have been receiving phenomenal traction, and are very excited to emerge as India’s most loved household brand for the next 100 million users."
Rahul Garg, Principal, Kalaari Capital commenting on the funding noted that “WinZO’s team has achieved a strong product-market fit and is all set to disrupt the vernacular entertainment space. We led the company’s seed round early last year, and are highly impressed with the team’s growth trajectory and strong execution."
