What if flying is cheaper than driving? BlackBird, a company which links travelers to the planes and pilots claims it can do that. The company launched in 2016 has now pouched a $10 million fresh investment to continue making the impossible possible. VC firm New Enterprise Associates has infused the capital in the company.
The last investment for the firm came in late 2017 where it picked $5 million in seed round funding. Jonathan Golden, NEA Partner is set to join the board of directors of BlackBird as part of the deal where he will sit alongside names like Francoise Brougher of Pinterest, Square and Google, and Andrew Swain.
Golden who had invested during the last seed round financing in BlackBird said that the segment in which BlackBird has forayed has seen a number of people try and go empty hand. Golden adds that the way BlackBird wants to replace driving with flying is very compelling.
“When most people think about flying non-commercially, they think about huge jets with couches and for billionaires,” Davis said. “And that is not the entirety of general aviation; there’s a huge aspect of aviation that is flying in smaller planes. It just hasn’t really been as accessible," Davis added.
This sounds very interesting, isn’t it? Flying to place A from place B, without facing the road congestion and probably at a cheaper cost as well.
