Berlin, Germany based JustWatch, the streaming guide platform has confirmed that it has acquired New York-based GoWatchIt in the attempt of expanding its reach in the massive U.S. market. The financing details of the deal have not been disclosed by both the involved parties.
GoWatchIt was launched in 2011 by David Larkin and it had raised funds from Scout Ventures. JustWatch says that they wanted the commercial team on GoWatchIt. As part of the deal, GoWatchIt CEO and founder Larkin, is going to be JustWatch’s SVP Marketing and Strategy and he will be operating from New York only. JustWatch, on the other hand, was founded in 2014 by David Croyé. The company has a team of more than 50 who are working out of Berlin and now two from GoWatchIt will be joining the firm.
JustWatch founder and CEO David Croyé through a statement said that “We are very happy with the acquisition of GoWatchIt and to welcome David Larkin at JustWatch. We have already known each other for several years and I’m excited to work with David to increase our footprint in the US. His network in the streaming industry will help us find many more partners for our B2B data and API offerings.”
Larkin talking about the deal said, “I’m excited to join JustWatch from New York and help to accelerate the growth with my industry experience and network. Over the last years, JustWatch has grown very fast to become the biggest streaming guide worldwide. The streaming wars are heating up and the biggest growth will come from outside the U.S. JustWatch is the only truly international player to help users find out what to watch and where to watch it.”
